Unregistered email-ids are ignored. What about alias addresses for registered accounts, how are they handled in Vaultastic?

There are two ways to set up journaling on the primary mail platform viz
a. by defining a specific list of users, whose mail should be journaled
b. by defining a general rule to archive mail for all users.
When the mail reaches Vaultastic, and if the user is not registered, the mail will be dropped silently. This however is not a good practice, since it uses up more bandwidth and may not be the most secure way to setup the journal rule
Thus we always recommend that you go with Option a and register the corresponding users on Vaultastic.
Aliases are not an issue since the mail eventually reaches the primary mailbox, where the journaling rule is applied.
